Professor Sophie Daniels aka Liberty’s Mother is a former commercial music professional working for the; The BBC, Sony UK and BMG, Sophie is now the UKs first female Professor of Songwriting and a pioneer in the areas of; songwriting education, research into the ‘humanity of songs’ and a gender equality public speaker and campaigner. Professor Daniels founded and runs the largest MA songwriting programme and songwriting research community in the world, in London at The Institute Contemporary Music (ICMP).
Sophie appears regularly on BBC6 Music at Drivetime as a ‘Six Musicologist’, is a Director of UK cic The F List and makes song work under the artist name ‘Liberty’s Mother’. Created with Catherine Anne Davies aka The Anchoress, Sophie's new feminist song cycle; ‘Peaceful Warrior’, is a recorded research project investigating sexism in the songwriting and record production processes themselves, which will be shared via a forthcoming documentary and book in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
